The Graze V.158: Planting Trees
Dear Friends:
We planted 12 beautiful, strong maple trees at Mission Farm this week. Pete, the arborist also pruned fruit trees, and cut small saplings from beneath the silver maple. This planting was part of the long-term vision for this space that began with Elizabeth Wood Clement in 1895 and continues today. Elizabeth imagined her childhood home transformed into a resource of connection for the community. This vision has been renewed by the generous and enthusiastic people who gather and love this land today.
Planting trees seems like the perfect start. These trees, whose branches wave in the breeze, are the beginning of a campaign to create a welcoming entrance at Mission Farm. They bring us hope in a future of connection for our community for the next 100 years.
The United Nations names tree planting as the most powerful solution in the fight against climate change. Planting trees is also the most profound way we can express our hope and faith. There is a familiar quote: βThe best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.β This happened this week at Mission Farm!
As Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Wangari Maathai reminds us, Planting trees is planting hope.
May you find hope in the trees and love in the gentle breeze,
